This “Barber of Seville” production was filmed in the intimate atmosphere of the Zürich Opera. It was directed by Grischa Asagaroff, whose inspirational and humorous direction permeates throughout the entire performance. The play is complemented by Gioachino Rossini’s recognizable music and the Seville-alluding scenery, transporting the viewer back to the 1930s. Based on the play by French dramatist Beaumarchais, this opera is a delightful expression of entangled circumstances, in a race to win the hand of young Rosina, played by Vesselina Kasarova, an authentic mezzo-soprano coloratura.
