This is the production Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors by director Ivan Uryvsky, known for his staging of The Witch of Konotop. The performance is based on the novella of the same name by Mykhailo Kotsiubynsky. At its heart lies the love story of Ivan and Marichka—hauntingly tragic and fateful, yet no less dazzling, interweaving love with the enmity within humanity. In this musical and movement-based production, filled with metaphorical scenes and symbolic images, the themes of authenticity, generational legacy, and the historical roots of a people are explored. Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors reveals the beauty of Ukraine’s mountainous region—a world that is both astonishing and incomprehensible.
